Metaphysics in Metaphors: Abraham Ibn Ezra's Adaptation of Neoplatonic Metaphysics
Original language description
Abraham Ibn Ezra (1092-1164) never wrote a systematic philosophical work but philosophical topics are discussed sometimes in his biblical commentaries and other writings. He often employs metaphoric language, and sometimes he interprets biblical phrasesas metaphors. His philosophical statements are often enigmatic and may seem even impenetrable in some cases. Nevertheless, this contribution argues, a precise sense can be ascribed to most of them when the sources of the ideas are identified in the worksof Ibn Gabirol and other Neoplatonic texts.
