    Ethnicities in Sinophone Cyberspace

  • Original language description

While the Internet connects peoples and cultures from different parts of the world and fosters a more globalized world, scholars from various social science and humanities disciplines have simultaneously observed a development in the opposite direction as various ethnic groups and their diaspora have tried to articulate their identities and delineate the boundaries of their groups in cyberspace. This special issue has a focus on the articulation of ethnic identities in the Sino-blogosphere, the largestblogging space in the world. The users of the Sino-blogosphere are mainly Chinese-speaking Han and other ethnic minorities in and outside of China. To what extent does the Sino-blogosphere blur community boundaries among Chinese-speaking Asian ethnic groups, and to what extent does it glue ethnic identities together? This is an empirical question that can only be answered through in-depth case studies. This special issue connects the empirical dots within the broader theoretical debates
