Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle, and her Ideal of the Ruler
Original language description
Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle, was the first woman to publish her works under her own name. In some of her writings she also focused on potilical topics, which included her ideas concerning the person of the ruler, the king. The article aims to give a basic overall picture of her ideal ruler, his qualities and also guidances. Despite of some diffusiveness of those ideas, Cavendish offers rather coherent picture of her ideal ruler. This was often influenced by her own personal experience fromthe times before and after the Restoration of the English monarchy in the 17th century.
