In the public and academic discoursein the Czech and the Slovak republics, the theme of the Roma minority is associated with social exclusion and searching for tools to overcome it. But outside professional interest and research there remains a group of"integrated" Roma - but we as scholars do not recognize the factors that contributed to their "integration into society". The author conducted fieldwork research in the area, which is given as an example of positive coexistence of the two ethnic groups.However, this ethnographic case study led rather to problematizinga one-sided understanding of the concept of integration in relation to Roma.This paper will focus on ambivalence of possible perspectives on integration (internal versus external view) andit will be shown on the economic, social and symbolic level.
