Remember to Change the World: NRMs in the Czech Republic
Original language description
In the study I discuss the practices of critique and remembering of new religious movements (NRMs) in the Czech Republic. The theoretical background of the study draws on Wallisʼ typology of NRMs and Mistzalʼs conceptualization of memory. I approached the data gained in empirical research among three religious organizations - International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Sōka Gakkai International62 and the Apostolic Church - using critical hermeneutics as introduced by Kinsella. The analytical outcomes demonstrate how the social ties between the organisations and their environment are dynamically negotiated in the processes of remembering. Secondly, based on the analytical reflections I present some shortcomings of the conceptual and methodological framework of the study. Finally, in accordance with the methodology I used in the study I make a proposal of how to understand the current situation concerning the NRMs and societies they inhabit.
