Isaac ben Solomon Israeli in the Renaissance

  • Original language description

The aim of the paper is to study the presence of several famous philosophical ideas of Issac Israeli Latinus in the Renaissance. Isaac Ben Solomon Israeli (Isaac Iudaeus) was one of the most important exponents of Jewish thought in the ninth century. The influence of Isaac Israeli’s philosophical thinking was not as important as the influence of other Jewish philosophers (Saadya Gaone, Ibn Gabirol, Maimonides), but some of his thoughts were reflected in later philosophical treatises: his definitions of philosophy, the notion of time / eternity, the concept of truth, the theory of emanation. The paper focuses on the theory of emanation and theory of truth. His main philosophical ideas were commented in the late medieval thought (especially in the works of Albert of Great and Thomas Aquinas!) and in the Renaissance in the works of Nicolas of Cusa, Jean Gerson, Marsilio Ficino, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola or Agostino Nifo.
