The Promise of Rain: Representation of Place in Louis Owens’s Nightland
Original language description
In Nightland, Owens contrasts the West as a place of popular imagery with the representation of West in Cherokee mythology. He structures the novel as a New West novel where the story leads to the survival of the Indian characters who are not portrayed as members of the doomed race, but who find survival in a renewed understanding of place.
