Representation of Motherhood Identity in the Ego-Documents from the Family of Sofie Podlipská
Original language description
The paper focuses on motherhood as one of the aspects of the feminine identity and how it is represented in the ego-documents written in the family of Sofie Podlipská. The aim of the paper is to analyse the discourses which reflect how the reality as well as the subjectivity of motherhood identity is understood and constructed. The attention is paid to the experience of becoming mother, the meanings that motherhood identity is fulfilled with as well as to the expectations imposed on mother. The reflections and standpoints of Podlipská are put into the framework of the period’s discourse of the cult of “new mother” and analyzed in the context of “mother’s burden” concept, as having been elaborated by Élisabeth Badinter.
