Original language description
The monograph is dealing with the grammatical system of English covering main topics in morphosyntax. The theoretical framework is based on traditional functionalism combined with a generalized generative (structuralist) approach. The study concentrates on the logic of the statistically relevant phenomena. All topics are illustrated on examples and individual phenomena are interconnected. Several sections introduces also original contrastive analysis of English and Czech data (wh movement, NP sttructure etc). The monograph provides references to normative grammar manuals as well as to specialized monographs.
