Moral Heroes or Suffering Persons? Ancestors in Family Intergenerational Stories and the Intersection of Family and National Memories
Original language description
Drawing on three-generational stories recounted by thirteen families, the article focuses on the topic of stories, their emotionality, and the personal traits of the heroes. It shows that in the stories framed by important historical events ancestors are depicted as heroes under circumstances of danger, fear, and threat while in private family stories they have more of an amusing character. Reasons for such a different depiction are suggested.
