Between Residences: The Bishop’s Residential Network as a Means and System of Representation
Original language description
We will therefoire focus on a number of interredlated questions: how did Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno cope with the scattered residential structure of the Olomouc bishopric, how did he use the number and variety of the individual residences for the purposes of his representation, and what did the residential regime look like, i.e. in which places, why, and in which phases of his life did he dwell or not dwell in the respective places. The combination of methods of social history, which enables the residences to be understood mainly as a place in their owner´s life, and methods of art history, which takes into account the share of the client and his formulation of the artistic task, allows us to interpret the motivation for the reconstruction and modification of the individual residences, their different functions, and the ways in which these function were reflected in the appearance of the buildings and their furnishings.
