The Passional of Abbess Cunegund: Old Theme, New Approaches
Original language description
This paper deals with the Passional of Abbess Cunigunde, the illuminated manuscript from the beginning of the 14th century. The author of this paper suggests the textual analysis, the iconographic analysis, and the text-image relationship as the methods which could significantly enrich the present knowledge about this manuscript. By applying these methods to the illumination depicting the Circumcission and the related text, several important aspects are revealed. The analysis points out especially the importance of the tituli and the sophisticated relations between the text and the image in the Passional. To conclude, the author designates the Dominican friar Colda of Colditz as the crucial person for the establishing of the decorative program of this manuscript.
