Popular Music Studies in Europe. History Methodologies, Perspectives. International Conference

  • Original language description

The international conference, hosted by Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw on 10th and 11th October 2019, freely follows the international symposium organized by the Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic in 2017, which focused on popular music in communist and post-communist Europe. In this sense, it seeks to establish further cooperation between researchers in the given geopolitical sphere, as well as to initiate a broader discussion on previously rather neglected issues. The contributions reflect topics such as the reception of Anglo-American popular music in communist Europe, the specifics of academic research of popular music behind the Iron Curtain or the issue of popular music in the secret service archives. The conference also include an organized discussion panel on the possibility of establishing international institutional structures that would allow the development of systematic research in the field in the future. Among the key speakers were the current and the former director of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music Rupert Till (University of Huddersfield) or Franco Fabbri (University of Milan).
