Original language description
Willa Cather’s writing displays quite an impressive knowledge of Czech history and culture as well as an understanding of the various forms of their cultural assimilation and acculturation. The paper explores several areas of her representation of the Czech immigrant experience in order to discover whether her fiction is concerned with statistically dominant phenomena or rather exceptions from the rule. The areas of immigrant experience comprise of social and religious background, motivation for emigration, the pattern of settlement and language dualism.
