The Hallstatt hoard of Roštín “Vlčák”, Kroměříž district (CZ)

  • Original language description

The Hallstatt culture hoard containing 16 items from Roštín “Vlčák” (Kroměříž district, Czech Republic) was deposited on the border of the Horákov and Platěnice groups of the East Hallstatt culture formed by a ridge of the Chřiby highlands. It is one of 18 Moravian sites classified as hoards and a burial-sacrificial cave sanctuary of both groups at Habrůvka “Býčí skála” where hoards are very likely to have been deposited as well. The phenomenon of Hallstatt hoards is homogeneous from the perspective of chronology, belonging to the Ha D1–D3 phases. The occurrenceof hoards is attributed, in particular, to the Platěnice group. These larger sets of finds significantly contribute to the study of the Hallstatt period. Their occurrence coincides with the height of social development of the Hallstatt culture in Moravia, with progressive signs of centralization tendencies mplemented by elites in the present-day Brno and Prostějov regions. The contents of the jewellery hoard from Roštín “Vlčák” presents chronological and social links to the richest Horákov group graves of magnate women (Gurtelfrauen) from the Ha D1 phase.
