Moravian Children of Zion and Their Language Struggle

  • Original language description

This chapter deals with the Jewish institution of the so-called genizah and the remnants of material culture that Jews in the Moravian countryside left in the attics of local synagogues. The genizah of the Holešov (Holleschau) synagogue provides, among other things, linguistically interesting evidence to the practice of pre-marriage examinations of Moravian Jewish brides and grooms in the middle of the 19th century.
