Incompatibility, unlimited semiosis, aesthetic function
Original language description
The aesthetic function is a generalization of the poetic function for different modalities. Jakobson would use the semiotics of Peirce to expound upon this, but it is a selective reading of Peirce, similar to that of Eco. A short poem by Ezra Pound helps to explain the generality of the aesthetic function as semiotic incompatibility.
