The study aims to reconstruct, based on archival sources, in particular stenographic minutes of meetings of the Central Committee of the Union and period journalism, the Union’s reflection of the events of 1956, which had caused the first major crisis in the Eastern bloc, and to determine whether they triggered changes in aesthetic or ideological principles of this centrally managed professional organization.
