Staging a Multicultural World in Daborne's A Christian Turned Turk
Original language description
The chapter shows how the used clothing, performance effects and stage architecture in Daborne's play A Christian Turned Turk affected the conceptualisation of the East in English theatre. How important role the materiality might play in staging multicultural environment of the Ottoman Empire and what impact on London audience this might have at that time, particularly regarding transformative religious identities of various characters. It also explores how the theatrical effects worked together with textuality of the Daborne’s play which is necessary for comprehensive understanding of the whole dramatic meaning.
