Workshop with Alison McManus, Durham University, on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre
Original language description
Charlotte Brontë and her sisters wrote some of the most famous and enduring novels of the Victorian era. If you’ve ever wondered how a humble governess could have written Jane Eyre, one of the most passionate love stories ever told, this session is for you. Of course, the romance is only one way of reading the novel, and through our discussion we’ll consider not only the autobiographical elements of the story, but also how the work has been received, both at the time it was published as well as by more contemporary literary critics operating from different theoretical frameworks.
