Original language description
The English translation (preceeded by an introduction) of the third of ten dialogues on history. Francesco Patrizi departed from the humanist theory of history as a means to profiting knowledge from past masters and a means of rhetorical plausibility. He took the time dependence of human actions seriously, pointed out the difficulty of using the past as a guide for the present, and established the distinction between the memory of past events and the creation of a written history as a story. In the third dialogue, he evaluates the notion of memory between cosmic and human history.
