Two albums of drawings by Lombard masters of the 16th and early 17th centuries from the estate of the Clary-Aldringen family
Original language description
The article focuses on the provenance of two albums of drawings by Lombard masters of the 16th and early 17th centuries from the estate of the Clary-Aldringen family, one of the most valuable collections of drawings preserved in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown since the 17th century. The aim of this article is to trace the records of this extraordinary collection in the possession of the Clary-Aldringen family since 1676 and its fate after 1945. However, it is still not possible to answer with certainty who before 1676 collected the drawings glued into the two albums, or how they came to be in the possession of the Clary-Aldringen family. Although one album was cut up and the separate drawings were handled differently, we can conclude that we have succeeded in assembling almost the whole of this collection.
