The Light Triad Personality Characteristics and Pro-Social Tendencies Toward LGBTQ+ People in Slovak and Czech Adults
Original language description
Several studies that have been conducted concerning the LGBTQ+ community have focused solely on negative attitudes and their relation to dark triad personality characteristics. There is a possible lack of research findings that focus on pro-social or positive tendencies in the context of positive personality characteristics that can demonstrate positive actions toward LGBTQ+ people. In the context of the research attention on pro-social behavior and positive personality characteristics, this study focuses on mapping out the pro-social tendencies towards LGBTQ+ in the context of the light triad personality characteristics and the levels of pro-sociality. The research sample comprised 94 respondents from the Slovak Republic (46.3%) and 109 from the Czech Republic (54.7%) who completed the light triad scale and pro-social tendencies towards the LGBTQ+ scale. We divided respondents in the Czech and Slovak samples into three research groups: respondents who scored lower, average, and high in every selected subscale of research methods. The results showed that Czech research groups who scored higher in humanism perceived themselves as more pro-social towards LGBTQ+ people in overall pro-sociality, public pro-social tendencies, and digital altruism. No significant differences were identified in the Slovak research groups. The study spotlighted positive personality characteristics and pro-social behavior toward LGBTQ+ people in Slovak and Czech adults. Studies have shown that people who perceive themselves as humanists define themselves as more pro-social. The study also compared two countries that were once one and showed the disparity in pro-sociality towards LGBTQ+ people in their cultures and societies
