The Literary Production of Minority Groups in Contemporary Brazilian Literature
Original language description
In the wake of the political and cultural liberation that followed the fall of the military regime (1964-1985) in Brazil, a notable increase in literary production by social, ethnic, sexual and other minority groups has became prominent in Brazilian literature. This subchapter investigates this trend, with the primarily focus on two specific areas: peripheral literature (literatura periférica), produced by authors from the economically disadvantaged urban districts and favelas of the Brazilian megapolises, and literary works by Afro-Brazilian authors which may be closely linked to the new wave of black activism that emerged in Brazil in the late 1970s.
