This talk explores the theme of belonging in the Czech borderlands through history, literary examples, and personal creative practice. The first half combines a historical overview of the prewar years through expulsion with close readings of Czech literary texts in English translation. In the second half, I will share some of my own creative work, and conclude with a short creative writing exercise for participants, focusing on themes of place and belonging.
