Not Manly Enough Until Proven Otherwise

  • Original language description

The goal of this publication is to examine representations of masculinity in the novels of Ernest Hemingway, Norman Mailer, and Tim O´Brien. The starting point is that masculinity is defined culturally through countless daily transactions. What comes across as manly, whether in American literature or American culture at large, has to be thus analyzed in the context of a relevant discourse on masculinity.
