Original language description
The paper presents the results of research in the use of glottal stop by Czech professional and non-professional speakers, and non-native speakers studying Czech as their L2. This study examines whether the professional speakers from different regions follow standard pronunciation rules or tend to link the words; whether the regional accent of the non-professional speakers affects the use of glottal stop; what kind of errors appears in the foreigners’ speech. The aim is to evaluate current use of glottal stop in pre-vocalic positions with respect to these key factors: native speaker’s regional accent and gender; non-native speaker’s level of Czech, and language family.
