Expressivity in TV news (focusing on derivational means)
Original language description
The article analyzes the use of expressive derivational suffixes in Czech television news, comparing public service and commercial broadcasts. Based on a taxonomy of expressive suffixes, the study identifies their frequency and function in news from four stations (ČT1, TV Nova, TV Prima, TV Barrandov). The analysis reveals that commercial stations, particularly TV Prima and TV Barrandov, employ expressive suffixes more frequently than the public service broadcaster ČT1. This difference suggests that commercial stations may prioritize a more dynamic and engaging style, potentially at the expense of objectivity. The study contributes to understanding the role of language in shaping media narratives and public perception.
