On Friendship, or: ?Friends Have All Things in Common?
Original language description
The paper deals with ?friendship? and with the interpretation of an ancient saying ?friends have all things in common?. As a textual base of the response to the question what friendship really is, Plato?s dialogue Lysis, the first serious philosophical treatment of friendship, was chosen. It became clear that friendship is not a mutual or similar relationship among people. Friendship is a relationship in which the reciprocity or closeness of friends is realised through the relation of both (or more) sides to the third aspect which is close and kindred to them and, at the same time, belongs to them and is what they lack now. Owing to the lack of the good itself and of the true wisdom, the desire for the good and wisdom arouses in us and thank desire thefriendship comes into being.
