Pastoral Forgery? How Biblical Scholars and Moral Theologians Speak About Lying
Original language description
Since the beginning of the 19th century, the critical biblical scholars have suspected several New Testament letters of being not written by the apostle named in their opening. Such suspicion inevitably raises questions about the canonicity and theological worth of these letters. When the exegets try to answer these questions, they deal with the old moral question of permissibility of lying. It is surprising that though they speak virtually about the same thing, there is no interference between the biblical scholars and moral theologians. I will compare the two discourses, observe the similarities between them and show the usability of the interdisciplinary dialogue.
