The issues of marketization and so-called quasi-market gain relevance in the current discourse of Czech social work. Social economy, as an integral part of national economy, represents an action field for the development of the profession of a social worker. In a broader context is the issue associated with the search for identity of the profession of a social worker in the post-modern society. The purpose of the paper is to analyze current status of Czech social economy and social enterprises. By thatmeans it aims to formulate recommendations on how the development of social economy by social workers might be supported. The formal concept of Czech social economy is being gradually defined and researched by various bottom-up initiatives. Fundaments for the analysis have been laid down by the project "Thematic network for the development of social economy in the CR".
