Nature completed by the will: Origen and Augustine
Original language description
In Origen and Augustine, we find the idea that rational beings, by an act of will, complete or modify their own nature. Each author, however, gives to this idea quite a different meaning. According to Origen, rational beings establish their ontological position by their own will, and this appears to be a possibility for as long as the world is in existence. According to Augustine, it is God himself who influences the will of rational beings, and thus divides them, definitively, into two groups - those elected and those reprobated.
