The Book Esther in Josephus. Authority of Conflict-causing Laws
Original language description
The biblical book of Esther speaks in many places of authoritatively ordained, binding provisions, in some places literally of the "law". Nomos is also important category for Josephus in his Antiquities of the Jews. How did Josephus in his paraphrase of biblical Esther (AJ 11:184-296) understand these binding provisions in comparison with authoritative texts: with the Hebrew text and with two Greek versions (LXX, AT)? Answering this question we can study the significance of the "law" in Josephus' paraphrase of biblical Esther.
