Original language description
The First Code of Canon Law was promulgated in 1917 and entered into force in 1918, shortly before the end of the First World War, which leaded to the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic. The paper describes the implementation of the Codex regulations at the time of its effectiveness (1918-1983) in the Czech lands and Slovakia, based on a brief presentation of the changed situation of the Catholic Church in the new state. It illustrates the political situation in the political regimes that influenced the implementation of the Canon law in the following areas: appointment of the national hierarchy, administration of church property, education of the Catholic clergy, stabilization of administrative structures of the Catholic Church, and ways of application of the canon law in the dioceses.
