„Elegit nos ante mundi constitutionem”: Line Eph. 1:4 between Victorinus, Origen, and Plotinus
Original language description
The study deals with the pre-existence of the soul as implied in the interpretation of the biblical line Eph. 1:4 given by Origen and Marius Victorinus and concerning the election of the saints before the creation of the world. The comparison with Plotinus’ Enn. IV,8(6) makes the contours of both Christian conceptions more apparent: both Origen’s concern for the moral justice of God and the universe and Victorinus’ belief in the value of the created world in which the soul can realise its possibilities and, thanks to this experience of “another”, become fully itself.
