The chapter is devoted to the importance of interpersonal communication and its influence on human life and the functioning of society. Specifically, it deals with the principles of effective and respectful communication with people with disabilities from the perspective of social work theory and practice. It analyzes this area both from the point of view of communication about people with disabilities and from the point of view of communication with them, while offering examples of good and bad practice in dealing with people with individual types of disabilities. The text concludes with an illustrative case study.
