Histological manifestation of rubbery wood symptom in apple trees.
Original language description
Apple rubbery wood is a graft transmissible disease with still unclear etiology. Recently a possible role of phytoplasmas associated with the trees showing rubbery wood symptom is intensively discussed. Rubbery wood symtom represents extremeflexibility of stems and branches of the trees affected. Manifestation of the symptom on the woody tissue level was examined using lightmicroscopy. Strusture and staining properties of the secondary xylem from symptomatic branches of apple trees cv. Rubin, Lord Lambourne and Šampion were compared with parameters of the corresponding tissue of branches from non-symptomatic healthy apple trees.
