Original language description
A series of 1,5-diaryl-3-formazylglyoxylic acids 1a-1f was prepared by azocoupling of diazonium salts with sodium pyruvate. These compounds gave the corresponding 3-(1,5-diaryl-3-formazyl)-1,2-dihydroquinoxaline-2-ones 2a-2f by condensation with o-phenylenediamine. Oxidative cyclization of these compounds did not lead to the [1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]quinoxaline derivatives 6a-6f, but to the isomeric 2,3-diaryl-5-(2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoxaline-3-yl)-tetrazolium chlorides 3a-3f, which were transformed into the less hygroscopic picrates 4a-4f.
