Uncommon polyamines norspermidine and norspermine - metabolism and role in the osmotic stress in higher plants
Original language description
There is a growing evidence that so called "uncommon" polyamines norspermidine (NSpd, 4-azaheptane-1,4-diamine, caldine) and norspermine (NSpm, 4,8-diazaundecane-1,11-diamine, thermine) play important role in many cellular processes similarly to their "common" counterparts spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm). "Uncommon" polyamines and their metabolism were thoroughly studied in thermophilic and halophylic bacteria, and were shown to were shown to be implicated in their adaptation to extreme environment.NSpd and NSpm also widely occur within eucaryotic algae, aquatic and leguminous plants and marine invertebrates (HAMANA 1992, 1994), and their amount was found to increase appreciably in plants exposed to environmental stress. NSpd and NSpm were detected in alfalfa grown in drought conditions (BAGGA 1991) or in the callus of heat-tolerant rice cultivar during heat stress (ROY 1996). The origin and fate of NSpd and NSpm within plant polyamine metabolism remains unclear. The involvement o
