Original language description
A Central European populations of Taraxacum that had been previously determined as T. scanicum DAHLST. were recognized to be different from those originally described from Sweden. T. scanicum s. str. is widespread in the northern and western part of Europe, but it is replaced in the south-eastern part of Central Europe by closely related newly distinguished species, Taraxacum prunicolor MART. SCHMID, R. J. VAŠUT et P. OOSTERVELD sp. nova. Morphological, ecological and distributional characteristics of T. prunicolor as well as major differences to similar taxa are given.
