Birds and rodents destroy different nests: a study of Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) using the removal of nest concealment

  • Original language description

Predators cause majority of nest losses. Birds select nest sites so as to minimise nest lesses. However, different predtors may select for different antipredator strategies. I studied nests of Blackcaps baited with plasticine clutches with either intactor removed nest concealment. Birds destroyed nests with low concealment and high placement. In mammal predators, concealment was not important and they destroyed nests placed low.

Ptáci a savci ničí různá hnízda: studie pěnice černohlavé (Sylvia atricapilla) pomocí snížení ukrytí hnízda

  • Czech description

Predátoři zničí mnoho ptačích hnízd a ptáci hledají taková místa pro hnízda, aby se predaci vyhnuli. Studoval jsem predaci hnízd pěnice černohlavé (Sylvia atricapilla) s umělými snůškami. Ptačí predátoři ničili hnízda málo ukrytá a vysoko položená. Savciničili hnízda položená nízko, zatímco ukrytí u nich vliv nemělo.
