In the last few years, structural changes in the Czech economy, expecially in industry, have influenced both the role and the importance of the extraction and processing of minerals and materials of mineral origin. The index of the mineral production share of the GDP reflects these changes, having decreased from 3,7% in 1993 to 1,3% in 2003.The mining industry has to a large extent a negative impact on the environment.

Czech description
Vývoj těžby nerostných surovin v ČR v sobě v posledních letech i díky strukturálním změnám v české ekonomice, zejména v průmyslu, odráží četná specifika transformace české ekonomiky. Dochází ke změnám priorit těžby surovin a následně i ke změnám v dovozua vývozu vybraných komodit. Podíl těžby nerostných surovin na tvorbě hrubého domácího produktu (HDP) poklesl z 3,7 % v roce 1993 na 1,3 % v roce 2003. I nadále má však těžební činnost velký rozsah a negativní dopady na životní prostředí.
