Image compression algorithms are either lossless or lossy. The aim of this article is to compare the effectivness of the lossy compression of algorithms based on the discrete cosine transform and wavelet transform. We compare the results of both types ofthe compression from the point of quantitative error as well as the subjective criteria based on the Television Study Organization standard.
