Movement of myriapods on the forest-meadow ecotone. Peckiana
Original language description
An ecotone is a transition area between two adjacent ecological communities (ecosystems). It may appear as a gradual blending of the two communities across a broad area, or it may manifest itself as a sharp boundary line. Ecotone as a habitat is a interface area, where species from each community will be found together as well as unique local species. In this study, we were interested if higher diversity of epigeic invertebrates at ecotone is caused by their frequent passage between biotopes through ecotone, or by their preferences for specific microclimate conditions there. It means, we were studied if invertebrates at ecotone are walking along or across boundary-line between two different habitats.
