    A new taxonomic concept of the Scilla bifolia group in the Czech Republic, central Europe, and adjacent parts of the Carpathians and the Pannonian Plain, i proposed. Three species are recognized: the diploid (2n= 18, 2x), Carpathian S. kladnii Schur (= S. subtriphylla Schur), the diploid (2n = 18, 2x), predominantely Pannonian S. vindobonensis Speta and the widely distributed S. bifolia L. The microspecies S. buekkensis Speta, S. drunensis (Speta) Speta, S. laxa Schur and S. spetana Kereszty are co-opted as well as S. bifolia s. str. into the latter species.Three relatively widely distributed and vicariant subspecies are recognized within S. bifolia: (1) subsp. bifolia from the Alps and adjacent parts of Europe, (2) subsp. buekkensis (Speta) Soó from the Carpathians and the Matricum, and (3) subsp. spetana (Kereszty) Trávníček from the Pannonian Plain. A fourth subspecies is described herein: subsp. rara Trávníček, endemic to a single locality in south-western Moravia in the Czech Repu
