Videokymographic examination of voice
Original language description
Vocal fold vibration plays the primary role for producing voice quality. Most voice disorders are caused by disturbed vibrations of the vocal folds. To understand the origins of voice disorders, it therefore is important to understand how the vocal foldsare disturbed in their vibration. Thhis chapter describes the principles of the videokymographic examination of voice in order a) to assess the ability of the vocal folds to vibrate, b) to assess pliability and stiffness of the vocal fold tissues, c) toassess perturbation of the vocal fold vibration, d) to assess the duration of vocal fold closure during vibration, e) to assess left-right asymmetry of the vocal folds during vibration and f) to understand the origin of hoarseness on the vocal fold level.
