Marking and its influence on behaviour of common pill woodlouse
Original language description
Marking techniques are often used in various studies in invertebrates. Although their potential influence on survival is evaluated before the marking itself, the influence on behaviour is usually omitted. This study aims to discover, if there is an influence of two external markings (nail polish and mother-bee marker) on behaviour of Armadillidium vulgare. The behaviour was examined from two aspects: (1) specific expressions of behaviour and (2) activity. The experiment aimed the recording of behaviourexpressions during 24 hours. Although there was no influence of marking on the survival observed, there was an evident influence on behaviour. Marked individuals looked apathetic, their activity was reduced and they preferred hiding or resting. The influence of nail polish and marker on frequencies of feeding, resting and hiding was significant.
