Basic Concepts of Relational Query Language for Similarity-Based Databases
Original language description
We present fragment of relational query language which supports similarity-based queries and approximate matches. The language provides a high-level user interface for an extension of the Codd model of data in which domains of attributes are equipped with similarity relations and tuples in data tables are labeled by ordinal ranks coming from complete residuated lattices, expressing degrees to which tuples match similarity-based queries. We explain how the language corresponds with the theoretical querysystems we have proposed in the past (in particular, the relational algebra) and show how it implements the fundamental relational operations that appear in the model.
