Practical Aspects of Combinatorial Solid-Phase Synthesis
Original language description
Combinatorial chemistry is a powerful and efficient technology that has already become an integral part of discovery processes, including drug discovery. In contrast to the traditional medicinal chemistry approach characterized by evaluating the effect of one structural modification at a time, the fundamental aspect of the combinatorial approach resides in the opportunity to evaluate the effect of a combination of individual structural and functional modifications in a molecule. As a result of the combinatorial method of constructing compounds, the number of synthesized compounds exceeds the traditional approach by several orders of magnitude and provides chemical libraries. Hence, the logistics and instrumentation for combinatorial synthesis are an important issue. In this contribution, we will discuss the logistics and practical aspects of combinatorial solid-phase synthesis.
