Dasymetric mapping as an analytical tool for the city development identification and its cartographic visualization

  • Original language description

The paper represents the result of an application of dasymetric mapping on the city development identification based on the aerial photography in the Olomouc region. The dasymetric map is a method of thematic mapping, which uses areal symbols to spatially classify volumetric data, especially population density. Dasymetric mapping is suitable for the population density visualization because of its ability to realistically place data over geography. The same approach can also be used to monitor the development of the city in the long time period. To monitor such developments can be used aerial photographs in combination with statistical data related to the same time units, in which the aerial images were taken. This contribution describes the methods ofdasymetric method application, advantages and disadvantages of the methodology use and the resulting cartographic visualization and statistical evaluation on the example of Olomouc city. A good indicator of the city development is besides
